It is no secret Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho is a massive admirer of the Brazilian midfielder, and has already hinted that he could make a move for the star after claiming ‘he needs a Brazilian in his squad.’
The Special one is seeking to replace departing Anthony Martial, who is not happy at the club and is looking to leave and sign for Italian Champions Juventus.
Now the Metro website has claimed the Red Devils have held informal talks with Willian’s party to gauge whether a summer deal could be on the cards.
However, Chelsea do not want to sell another big name to as Premier League rival, especially after letting Nemanja Matic go last summer and seeing just how impressive he has been for United.
Willian confirmed United tried to acquire his services last summer.
‘I had contact with Manchester United but I was not close to leaving,’ he told UOL.
‘Of course, sometimes you get upset that you’re not playing.
‘But that doesn’t mean you do not like the club or the people who work there.’
United will have a big transfer budget to play with the summer, and will be hoping the likes of Willian do make the move to Manchester.
