Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Brazilian Fred, according to reports.
The Red Devils are confident of completing the deal in the coming days and believe they will be able to sign the midfielder at a reduced price.
Shakhtar Donetsk want Fred’s full £52.5million release clause up front, but United are hopeful they can negotiate a fee that will could rise to that figure.
The Manchester Evening News claim Fred’s representatives traveled to London ahead of player and there are only a few more details to iron out.
Fred is on international duty with Brazil ahead of the World Cup next month and is currently in London.
Brazil have been training at Tottenham’s grounds ahead of a friendly against Croatia at Anfield on Saturday.
United are so confident of a deal going through, officials are already considering their options for the unveiling of Fred.
If the deal is done by Saturday it could be at Carrington, but there is also the possibility an unveiling will be conducted away from the club’s headquarters.
Romelu Lukaku was unveiled in Los Angeles last summer after undergoing a medical in the States and United could go down a similar route with Fred.
United have been chasing Fred since January and have seemingly fought off competition from Manchester City.
Fred confirmed this week his agent had held talks with United and that negotiations are advanced.
‘There have been some advanced talks since January, when I almost went to Man City,’ Fred said.
‘Soon after City, United talked to Shakhtar and my agents. And today, if I’m not mistaken, there is very strong interest from United.’
