Many names have already been linked with a move including Chelsea’s current crop of players, most notably – Alvaro Morata. The Spanish forward arrived from Real Madrid for a club-record £56m in the summer but has failed to impress since moving to England and has been linked with a move back to Juventus.
Should Morata depart, Chelsea must make signing a top striker their number one priority when the window reopens. High on their shortlist should be RB Leipzig forward – Timo Werner. The 22-year-old is valued at £54m according to Transfermarkt.
The German forward has emerged as one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga during Leipzig’s rise to prominence. An absolute live-wire in the penalty box, he’d be a wonderful alternative to Olivier Giroud and someone able to link up well with the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro. After his current side failed to qualify for the Champions League, Werner should follow Naby Keita through the exit door. He will surely attract plenty of interest after scoring 21 goals and notching ten assists in all competitions.
Set for a starring role in Germany’s World Cup campaign, the forward’s market value will skyrocket if his excellent form continues in Russia. His biggest strength is his pace, something which the current Chelsea forwards lack. His energy and eye for goal would be tremendous assets for Antonio Conte next year.
Chelsea fans, thoughts?
